Gates

Gates is an experimental indie quintet from New Brunswick, NJ with an accelerated post-rock pulse. Kevin Dye’s lyrical content fits seamlessly within their emotionally draining sound. Conflicted and introspective, he speaks in metaphors of light and darkness about frustration with becoming yourself. Incorporating simple but effective stomp lights, the three guitars use pinchy, squealing licks and aggressive feedback to push forward their crushing sound. Vocally, the band expels strained, gasping melodies as if struggling to find the right word to convey how they feel.

Gates’ individuality lies in their ability to maintain attention while in a constant crescendo. Turn the volume up to 11 and soak in the cavernous noise of Gates.
