Choir Vandals

Choir Vandals is an indie punk band whose sound is influenced by 90’s emo, millennium brit rock, and hardcore. They’re a band who focus on a riff and a melody; writing catchy vocal lines that merge into storms of heavy feedback. Diverse influences allow for timbre that is often undiscovered in the music of peers. Austin McCutchen’s voice is grizzled and worn; he somberly transitions from clean choruses to scratchy angst in more intensely emotional sections. The guitar work is phenomenally simple but arranged with odd chord changes that keep each song evolving, adding value to each re-listen.

Choir Vandals’ first record, ‘Darker Things,’ made way for the stellar new EP, ‘At Night.’ The 2015 release finds the band hitting their stride. It’s a powerful set of four tracks that balance discussions of depression, intoxication, and the mundanity of free time with a cheerful, albeit fatalist, optimism. Watch them performing tracks from both records on Audiotree Live.
